Self-efficacy and sleep quality of adolescents who experience dysmenorrhea
Keywords:

Dysmenorrhea is a common gynecological problem for female adolescents and adults. Dysmenorrhea disrupts daily activities, including sleeping quality. The sleeping quality decreases significantly because neurotransmitter signals are disturbed when the physical body is in pain. When the pain turns to stress, the body reacts to physiologically equalize the body conditions. Self-efficacy is one of the mediators in controlling stress when dysmenorrhea occurs. The present study was conducted to observe the correlation between self-efficacy and sleeping quality among adolescents who suffer from dysmenorrhea. The research employed accidental sampling method by handing out questionnaires to 208 adolescents, from 16 to 18 years old, through e-mail and physical copies. The present study indicates that there is a significant correlation between self-efficacy and sleeping quality among adolescents who suffer from dysmenorrhea. Self-efficacy was significantly related to the quality of sleep in adolescents who experience dysmenorrhea.
