Abstract

Communication is an essential aspect in the parent-adolescent interaction. An effective parents-adolescent communication is believed to create positive climate and interaction between parents and adolescent. Adolescents’ perception about parental communication helps them develop and achieve maturity, because through that communication, values, rules, and culture are permeated. The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is a significant effect of parents-adolescent communication perception on juvenile delinquency in a Senior High School Jakarta. This is a causal comparative quantitative study of 316 students from a Senior High School in Jakarta. Instruments used to measure parents-adolescent communication perception were constructed from the Effective Communication Theory and the tendency of juvenile delinquency, which was adapted from Wijaya, Widiastuti, and Nisfiannoor (2010). The result of this study showed that there is a significant contribution of the effect of parents-adolescent effective communication perception on juvenile delinquency in X Senior High School.
